Welcome all transplant candidates, recipients, caregivers, living donors and donor family members!

Get Involved

Nebraska Transplant Support Group

Our Mission

Nebraska Transplant Support Group is a volunteer-led organization comprised of transplant recipients and their families, transplant candidates, donor families, medical personnel, social workers, clergy and others interested in transplantation and promoting donor awareness.

  • To provide moral support and information to pre- and post-transplant families;
  • To promote public awareness of the success of transplants and the growing need for organ and tissue donors; and
  • To honor donor families.

Support Services

An example of people of all types

Our primary function is to provide support service for patients who are both in the pre- and post- transplant process.

  • Responding immediately and sensitively when called by a doctor or hospital staff member (or other referral) to talk with a family which has just been told about the need for a transplant. Getting to see and talk with someone who has “been there” can make a significant difference in the attitude of the patient and family to the possibility of a transplant.
  • Offering emotional support and friendship to families from out of town who are in the Omaha area for a transplant.
  • Providing small financial grants to transplant families to assist with emergency medical or living expenses. For more information, please contact Secretary@NETransplantSupport.com

Educational Services

Nebraska Transplant Support Group hosts regular activities updating the community about various aspects of transplant.

  • Hosting monthly transplant support and educational meetings providing a forum for recipients, caregivers, and those waiting for a transplant to share their concerns about the transplant process.
  • Providing information about the transplant process and resources to family members.
  • Send email and social media “media alerts” about transplant issues
  • Maintaining a social media presence to inform, inspire and encourage the transplant community.

Let Us Hear From You!

If we can help support a family you know facing a transplant, please let us know!

There are 56* organ procurement organizations (OPOs) in the United States. OPOs are responsible for working with donor hospitals to help place donor organs for transplant. After my second heart transplant, I could walk up stairs again without being short of breath. I could also do things like yard-work and exercise again without feeling completely wiped out for the day.

Sarah

I owe my life to my donor and family.

Wendi

The first thing I noticed after my heart transplant was how much easier it was to breath.
